What is training campleader summer workcamp?

Short Term Volunteering Project as one of the IIWC’s activities since 2001. Short Term Volunteer Project generally takes place between 12-14 days with the main aims of cultural exchange and solving general problems in society.

To success the aims in workcamp, IIWC needs campleaders who are willingly in charge and lead International/Bilateral Workcamps and make the workcamp organized well.

Training is one of the ways that can be done to either empower or develop an organization or a person. This Training for Campleader is designed to fulfill the needs of Campleaders to organize IIWC Summer Workcamps 2012. Throughout this training, we expect that campleader candidates can gain new skills and knowledge to run, organize and be able to act as campleaders in the workcamps.

Aims

Produce qualified campleaders for organizing IIWC Workcamps.

Objectives

1. Organizing Summer TCL 18-21 May 2012 as the follow up of previous annual meeting

2. Providing the trainees with basic knowledge on how to organize a workcamp

3. Providing basic Training material of IVS and Intercultural learning,Communication,Conflict Management etc.

4. Providing good practices and simulations of IIWC workcamp

Day/Date : Friday-Monday, May 18th – 21st 2012

Requirement Needs:

To run this event, we need some volunteers to be prep-team/ preparation team in some positions, as follows:

1. Minute taker (1 person)

Responsible for making a note or typing every discussion in each session during the training.

2. Logistic (1 person)

Prepare logistics during the training

3. Documentation (1 person)

Responsible for documenting/ taking pictures during the training, making a video of the training, and publishing the TCL press release.

Who can apply?
1. Member of IIWC
2. Ever join training for the new member or other trainings in IIWC
3. High motivated and able to work in a team
4. Has availability time for the whole training
5. Ready and able to attend the preparation meeting

Camp Leader Gathering


Latar Belakang

Camp Leader (CL) adalah orang yang mengkoordinasi work camp, baik dalam kegiatan, finance dan working group. Kebanyakan setelah work camp, para CL tidak banyak aktif lagi di IIWC setelah beberapa kali mengikuti work camp (rata-rata 2-4 kali jadi CL). Di sisi lain para CL baru membutuhkan bimbingan untuk berbagi pengalaman. Karena itu dibutuhkan CL Gathering untuk mengakomodir mantan-mantan CL sebagai wahana berbagi informasi dan pengalaman.

Tujuan kegiatan

  • Membentuk struktur Pool of CL guna mendayagunakan Ex CL
  • Memberikan lahan dalam pengaktifkan ex-CL di IIWC
  • Sharing pengalaman sesama Ex CL, wahana Capacity Building bagi ex CL, dll

Participants do not need to prepare anything for the training. Just be advised to come to the venue 15 before the activity starts. The meeting will be conducted in a fun, yet effective way, and hence do not worry too much about the dress code. You can wear casual dress that makes you feel comfortable throughout the training. Due to some reasons, lunch is not provided but we will provide you with snacks and drink.

Call for Training for Camp Leaders for 2012 Summer Work Camp


As the preparation stage of 2012 Summer Work Camp 2012 is coming soon, we are happy to inform you the call for training campleader (TCL) for 2012 summer workcamp. Please read the information below!

A. What is training campleader ?

Training campleader or TCL is a part of preparation stage of workcamp, meaning this will be the early start in workcamp management. Training campleader or TCL is a training designed and conducted by IIWC to provide all information, knowledge, good practices, simulations, and experiences needed by the candidate of campleaders so that they can manage and lead an international or bilateral workcamp of IIWC. A campleader cooperates with a campleader partner to manage a group of international/ bilateral volunteers in an international/ bilateral workcamp of IIWC. In a year, IIWC organizes two TCL based on the need of IIWC workcamp which is annually two times season per year. Based on IIWC workcamp calendar, summer seasons 2012 is June till September 2012.

PS: international workcamp is Workcamp with multi-nationalities participants and bilateral is workcamp with 2 nationalities participants.

C. When will the training be held?

Venue : House of Mr. Suratman – Gedong Songo area
Day/Date : Friday-Monday, May 18th – 21st 2012
Meeting point : IIWC Volunteer House @Jalan jembawan II no.10 Semarang and we will depart together to venue of TCL by angkot at 09.00 on Friday 18th May 2012 from IIWC volunteer’s house. Make sure that you’re not coming late.
Departure time (to Semarang): Monday, 21st May 2012 approximately at 13.00

F. What should you bring?

  • Eating utensils
  • Personal Stationeries (book + pen , etc)
  • Personal Bath kit
  • Blanket (the weather may be cold for Indonesian, around 20 degree during the day and 15-17 degree during the night )
  • Sleeping bag
  • Sneakers shoes in case of school visit activity (no high heels)
  • Personal belonging include personal medication, etc
  • IIWC T shirts (for those who have it)

This training for campleader is free (no participant fee)
Meals are provided during the TCL, all Trainee will do cooking, cleaning and washing in turns in group
IIWC provides travel reimbursement for all trainees based on economic standard local cost of transportation. For this, please bring the receipt with you.

What is Member?
Members of IIWC are volunteers that have been registered to be one of the members of IIWC, understand the vision and mission of IIWC, and are actively involved in IIWC activities by fulfilling the responsibility of becoming members (for example paying the membership fee, joining training for new members, etc).

What Members Can Do?
As a voluntary service organization, members are very essential for IIWC. For all IIWC activities, contribution and active participation of the members will determine the success or failure of the organization. The contribution and active participation can be in the form of promoting IIWC’s activities to the people around them, giving ideas and opinion about IIWC existing activities, writing articles for the website and many more. Besides, members are also entitled some privileges such as joining foreign language class, gathering activity with other members from different cities, joining capacity building and training activities of IIWC.

In addition, members can also:
1. be actively involved in short term volunteering activity by becoming camp leader/co leader.
2. participate in Long and Middle Term Volunteering activity by becoming contact person for international volunteers.
3. be actively involved as the person in charge for IIWC Community (in different city in Central Java) or weekend work camp, or other events.
4. be actively involved as part of Pool of Trainers IIWC.
5. be selected as the representative of IIWC in international events and activities.

Who Can Apply to be IIWC Member?
1.    Indonesian citizen or foreign nationals who have lived in Indonesia for at least 1 year;
2.    The age of teenage member is between 15-18 years old and the age of general member is 18 years old above;
3.    Not registered as member of another organization which has similar activities as IIWC.

Call for Preparation Team for Final Evaluation of Spring Work Camp s2012


What is Spring Work Camp?
Short term volunteering is normally shortened as STV or usually we usually call  as work camp.  Every year IIWC organized two times final evaluation of  work camp namely spring and summer final evaluation. Final Evaluation spring camp is an activity to evaluate the whole process of workcamp during spring season. For spring 2012, IIWC organized 11 camps in Gedong songo, Mangkang, Tegalrejo, Borobudur, and Semarang. This activity will be attended by all campleaders and local partners of spring workcamps. In this event, We are going to  discuss together to evaluate each workcamp ; problem identification, swot analysis and finding solutions  of  problems from each camp and to get recommendation for future. So that in the future, we can  better organize in future workcamps. Hopefully  this event can strengthen the relation between IIWC and its local partners.

1.      To evaluate  IIWC spring workcamp 2012
2.      To get recommendation  of each  camp
3.      To have better and more harmonius relationship with the parties involved

  3. engatur dan memonitor jadwal kegiatan di rumah belajar
  4. Berkoordinasi dengan staff IIWC atas update informasi progress kegiatan rumah belajar
  5. Mengatur dan mengurus keperluan sosialisasi terkait rumah belajar di tingat RT, RW, kelurahan, kecamatan, dan kabupaten
  6. Mengurus pemberitahuan kegiatan dan keberadaan relawan yang tinggal di rumah relawan kepada otoritas: pemerintah di tingkat RT, RW, kelurahan, kecamatan,  dan kabupaten serta kepolisian di tingkat sector dan resort.
  7. Mendukung relawan relawan baru menyesuaikan dirinya dengan lingkungan sekitar dalam hal: perbedaan budaya, komunikasi tingkat lokal berkehidupan sosial setempat; mendukung tindak lanjut pelatihan bahasa Indonesia; kemandirian dalam hal mengunakan transportasi.

C. Informasi tentang Rumah Belajar IIWC:

Latar Belakang
Vulnarable Group atau kelompok rentan terutama untuk anak-anak di berbagai daerah perkotaan dan sub-urban dengan berbagai akar permasalahannya belum bisa secara menyeluruh tertangani baik oleh pemerintah maupun oleh sektor swasta yang lain. Anak-anak yang tinggal di lingkungan resosialiasasi/ lokalisasi berpotensi mendapatkan lingkungan kehidupan sehari-hari yang berbeda dari anak-anak lain dalam hal interaksi edukatif non-formal dan ketersediaan ruang untuk menghabiskan waktu senggang untuk bermain bersama teman sebaya.  Melihat fakta ini, IIWC secara penuh menyadari perlunya kepedulian dan keikutsertaan banyak pihak dalam menangani isu ini. Sebagai organisasi penyelenggara kerelawanan internasional, IIWC melihat bahwa  potensi kegiatan kerelawanan bisa menjadi salah satu alternatif solusi untuk pemecahan masalah anak-anak di Tegalrejo. Maka sejak tahun 2006, IIWC telah memulai aksi kepeduliannya dengan menyelenggarakan workcamp atau kemah kerja dengan NICE Japan (organisasi kerelawanan internasional di Jepang). Ketika kegiatan kerelawanan internasional dilakukan terhadap anak-anak di Tegalrejo ternyata antusiasme anak-anak cukup tinggi dimana anak-anak sangat aktif mengikuti berbagai kegiatan informal dari para relawan.

Dari yang awalnya hanya setahun sekali, semakin lama semakin bertambah perhatian baik dari IIWC, NICE, maupun relawan, setiap tahun penyelenggaran workcamp juga semakin meningkat dan saat ini mencapai 4 kali dalam setahun. Akhirnya, pada tahun 2011, dari diskusi yang cukup panjang antara IIWC dengan pihak relawan NICE Jepang bersepakat untuk melakukan intervensi yang lebih besar lagi dan dalam jangka waktu yang lebih lama untuk anak-anak di Tegalrejo. Kesepakatan bersama ini  pada akhirnya adalah berupa upaya bersama untuk mengadakan sebuah shelter/rumah belajar sebagai tempat bermain, belajar, dan berkarya anak-anak di Tegalrejo sebagai upaya untuk berkontribusi dalam memberikan kesempatan anak untuk berkembang dan berkepribadian sesuai amanat konvensi hak anak melalui pendekatan pendidikan non-formal. Untuk itu IIWC akan menyelenggarakan beberapa workcamp dan kegiatan kerelawanan jangka panjang (LMTV) dengan tema Vurnarable group Workcamp di Tegalrejo pada bulan september sebagai langkah awal untuk realisasi shelter anak dengan nama “ Rumah Belajar IIWC “.

Tujuan
Tujuan umum :
Memfasilitasi kegiatan bermain dan belajar secara positif  bagi anak-anak sesuai amanat konvensi hak anak

Tujuan khusus :

  1. Pendampingan mata pelajaran sekolah
  2. Memberikan bekal ketrampilan dan seni kepada anak-anak
  3. Mengasah kepercayaan diri anak-anak
  4. Memotivasi anak-anak akan pentingnya berpendidikan tinggi

Bentuk Kegiatan:
Kegiatan-kegiatan utama Rumah Belajar IIWC :

  1. Memberikan les tambahan untuk mata beberapa pelajaran sekolah seperti bahasa inggris, matematika, geografi, dan IPA
  2. Mengajari anak-anak membuat benda-benda kerajinan, menggambar, menari, dan menyayi
  3. Pentas seni dan pameran hasil karya anak-anak secara berkala
  4. Memberikan wawasan-wawasan tentang kemajuan positif dunia luar kepada anak-anak
  5. Memberikan informasi dan pendampingan kepada anak-anak dan orang tua tentang kebeasiswaan
  6. Membuat program fair trade kepada orang tua anak-anak dan anak-anak usia remaja
  7. Memberikan apresiasi kepada anak-anak yang berprestasi di sekolah

Kegiatan-kegiatan penunjang :

  1. Kemah kerja relawan baik bilateral maupun internasional
  2. Pertukaran budaya
  3. Weekend workcamp
