A. SHORT TERM VOLUNTEERING (STV)

Short Term Volunteering is an international activity that deposits 2-3 weeks with special themes or purpose. Usually this activity is called “Workcamp”

Some of themes are:  Children (Street Children, Children with Disabilities, Children in Slum Area, Children in Prostitution Area), Health And Reproduction Education, Education, Environment, Culture and Heritage, etc.

This activity divide into:

  1. International Workcamp
  2. Bilateral Workcamp (only 2 nationalities in the camp)
  3. Group Workcamp (bilateral camp with special project and similar background of participant)
  4. NVDA Special Workcamp (workcamp for NVDA members and associate)
  5. Weekend Workcamp (short workcamp, only 1-2 days in the weekend)

B. LONG AND MIDDLE TERM VOLUNTEERING (LMTV)

Long and Middle Term Volunteering is an international activity that deposits 2-6 month (middle term) or 6-12 (long term) with special theme for sustainable project. This activity is an individual project which each project contain 1 or 2 volunteers.

Volunteer will stay in one place with the project site, in collaboration with partners or local communities with the main purpose of exchanging experiences, culture, mutual benefit between the relevant parties.

The Aims are:

  1. To exchange experience and culture, to provide opportunities for volunteers to connect with and learn from the community through enjoyment of local life and exchange.   
  2. To promote lasting change with specialized and sustainable voluntary works that improve the community.
  3. Mutual benefit between the stakeholder, to empower not only the hosts, but also the local communities especially in depopulated areas.

C. EVENTS AND CAMPAIGNS

Event and Campaign are activities which the main aim is to increase public awareness of  the social issues. It can be demonstrating, seminar, action, etc designed to achieve a social or commercial goal. This activities organized by members. Members can be propose some activities to IIWC and then action together.

Some example are:

  1. Earth Day
  2. Batik Day
  3. Volunteer Day
  4. Children Day 
  5. AIDS Day
  6. Community Visit
  7. Gathering Member
  8. Weekend Workcamp, etc.

D. IIWC CARES

IIWC care is a solidarity action to help people after disaster. This can be material donation, moral support, charities and other. IIWC Cares is held by demand base. which depend on national issues.

What we did:

  • Jogja Relief Action, 2006-2008. After big earthquake hit Jogja in May 2006, IIWC did a series of action to help the victim of this disaster in Brebah, Sleman. IIWC sent 3 groups of volunteers during the emergency phase to help public kitchen and trauma center for children in 2006; with the help from NVDA members organized 3 international workcamp in 2007 to help local people to clean up the schools and houses and rebuild one kindergarten; organized 2 bilateral workcamps in 2008 to do school visit and cheer up the student and local people after earthquake.
  • Merapi Volcano Action: Refuges and Borobudur Temple, 2010. By the end of 2 weeks eruption of Merapi Vulcano in the border of Yogjakarta and Magelang, IIWC organized 1 international weekend workcamp to help the public kitchen, trauma center for children and manual cleaning the Borobudur temple under coordination of Borobudur Conservation office, Ministry of Culture and Tourism Indonesia.

E. REGULAR ANNUAL ACTIVITIES

Regular Annual Activities are activities held every year. IIWC Regular Annual Activities include IIWC Anniversary and Annual Meeting.

  • IIWC Anniversary is an activity for celebrate organization birthday, and the aim is keep spirit volunteering service.
  • Annual Meeting is activity which the organization reports one year activities and plan for the next year activities. In this activity, member or partner can apply “new project” such as Workcamp or Long and Middle Term Volunteering project in their potential site. Annual Meeting discusses about and approve new project propose members or local partner/potential partners.

F. TRAININGS AND GATHERING

Training and Gathering are activities design for members and local partners to increase human resources in term Quality and Quantity.

Training are:

  1. Training for New Member
  2. Training for Campleader
  3. Training for Contact Person
  4. Training for Trainer
  5. Training On Arrival for LMTV Volunteers
  6. Orientation Season for Workcamp Volunteers 
  7. Training for Local Partner, etc
IIWC Gathering are:
  1. Member Gathering
  2. Middle Evaluation Seminar for LTV Project
  3. Final Evaluation Seminar for LTV Project
  4. LMTV Local Partner Planning Meeting
  5. STV Local Partner Gathering
  6. Halal Bi Halal, etc.

G. INTERNSHIP AND RESEARCH

Internship and Research is a scheme for students (especially university) who are in the process of taking final project or to learn about office work.

Internship is a system of on-the job training, similar to an apprenticeship. Internships provide opportunities for student to gain experience, determine if they have an interest in a particular career, create a network, or gain school credit. Opportunity can be work about office, project management, and especially to learn more about how to work in international volunteering service organization.

Research can be defined as the search for knowledge using a scientific method. The primary purpose for basic research (as opposed to applied research) is discovering, interpreting, and development of methods and systems, especially in international volunteering service organization.

H. OUTGOING PROGRAMS

Outgoing Program is a sending volunteer scheme in which IIWC sends members as individual or group to join IVS activity abroad. IIWC cooperates with international partners, IVS organizations around the world. For more information about IIWC International Partners, please click: Partner on CCIVS.

IVS activities abroad includes Workcamp, LMTV Project, Internship at IVS Organizations, Trainings, Seminars, or combination of those. Information of IVS activities abroad is accessible for IIWC member only, though IIWC member mailing list.

International partner receive Indonesian Volunteers only sent by Indonesia IVS Organization registered as a member/partner in IVS network. IIWC is the IVS Organization in Indonesia registered as full member of CCIVS UNESCO and NVDA Asia Pacific and Partner of SCI International, Alliance Europe, VfP america, etc.

  • Regular Outgoing Program is sending volunteer program scheme where member do the travel arrangement by them selves.
  • Non Regular Outgoing Program is a sending volunteer program scheme where only selected member with specific qualification are sent as IIWC representatives. There are special term and condition related to travel arrangement, accommodation and lodging.

The terms for the Regular Outgoing (both MTV and STV / Workcamp) in 2011 were:

  1. Member IIWC (proved with valid membership card)
  2. Minimum of 1 time activity has followed IIWC
  3. Volunteer Exchange Form Fill out the form and send it to the STV Coordinator (stv_iiwcindonesia@yahoo.com) for Workcamp or LMTV Coordinator (lmtv_iiwcindonesia@yahoo.com) for lmtv project
  4. After receiving the assurance received from the partner, must follow a pre departure training at the office IIWC
  5. The entire cost of flight, local transport, insurance and visa covered by the volunteer concerned.
